Welcome to Sumba Island, the name "Sumba" is derived from the native language, humba or hubba (in various Sumbanese dialects), which means “original”, “native”, “indigenous” or “no interference” referring to the native inhabitants of this island who identified themselves. Sumba is one of the exotic paradises in eastern Indonesia. The vast expanse of savanna, rows of limestone hills, the white perfectly beaches, the stunning of waterfalls, and the splendor of nature that is so beautiful blend perfectly with the local wisdom. The villages on this island are mostly built on hilltops with houses that still carry the traditional concept of thatched roofs. The majority of the houses are built near ancestral graves, because most of the local residents embrace the Marapu belief, namely the belief in worshiping ancestors.

Activities
Your morning starts with a fresh breakfast before heading to Waikelo Sawah. This impressive site was built for local irrigation and power, and it features an incredible natural cave entrance that is four meters wide. Right at the mouth of the cave sits a pool of incredibly clear water; while it looks perfectly calm at first glance, swimming is not allowed here due to the deep, powerful hidden currents underneath.
Next, you will travel a short distance to the beautiful Weekecura Waterfall. Tucked quietly in the middle of lush, terraced rice fields, this unique waterfall features low, gentle tiers that create a series of natural pools. It is the perfect, safe spot to jump in for a refreshing swim, splash around, and relax while surrounded by beautiful green scenery.
In the afternoon, you will visit the side-by-side cultural villages of Tarung and Waitabar. Here, you will take a leisurely walk to explore the striking traditional architecture, meet the locals, and learn about their unique social structures and rich heritage. To wrap up the day, you will head to the exotic Watubela Beach to walk along its soft white sands, admire the majestic limestone cliffs, and watch a breathtaking sunset over the ocean before checking into your hotel.
